Motivation And Trust Are Key Factors In Business Leadership

All businesses need to have a leader and a motivator. This could be the same person but if you are starting with a small business then you will need to learn business leadership skills.

Motivation is one of the hardest skills because many people don't want to work. During the summer they are dreaming about days spent at the beach, and in winter hours drinking coffee and wandering around the mall. That might be a great lifestyle for some, but without the income to sustain it, that then becomes an impossible dream.

You might employ someone and give them the title of a leader, but until the other people in the team come to see it for themselves, then that person will have to spend a lot of time proving it to the other members. Often, people will select their own leader as these leadership traits come out. The leader might not know they have leadership traits, and have done nothing to nurture them.

Some people, who assume leadership roles, think it is all about telling people what to do. They might have been in the military and think this is the best blueprint for leadership. Shout at people, make them afraid if they make a mistake, even belittle them when they do something wrong. But this is the worse kind of leadership in business, and one where you could lose your best workers to another company.

Other leaders work with fear, but this is fear that one of the team might perform better than they do. They are afraid that if they don't complete every job themselves, it won't be done to their standard or worse it could be done better and then they would be out of a job.

A good leader will protect their team. They will take time to nurture them, and encourage them when they make a mistake. They will want to teach them how to learn to perform their daily routines in a far better way. They will motivate their team, they will encourage them. They will be there when a team member has a problem, and the team knows that whatever the situation their leader will always listen to them.

The best thing about business leadership is when you have developed this kind of relationship with your team, and one or more of them has a brilliant idea. They come and share it with you, and suddenly you see the potential of that being implemented and it is all because your team trusts you enough to share with you.
